چکیده

The Tropical Rainfall Mapping Mission Microwave Imager (TMI) instrument Sea Surface Temperature (SST) product (v1.0) is compared with in situ observations obtained in the Atlantic Ocean. The TMI SST has a mean warm bias of 0.25K¡0.7K when compared to in situ SST at a depth of 7m. When TMI SST are compared to in situ skin SST measurements, the bias is 0.6K¡0.5K. A limited global comparison between TMI SST and co-incident ERS-2 Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (ATSR/2) skin SST demonstrates a bias of 0.6K¡0.6K consistent with the result obtained using in situ observations. These results are consistent with the predicted accuracy of the TMI SST data products. Based on these results, a simple method to merge the TMI and ATSR data is proposed.

Satellite measurements of sea surface temperature through clouds

Measurements of sea surface temperature (SST) can be made by satellite microwave radiometry in all weather conditions except rain. Microwaves penetrate clouds with little attenuation, giving an uninterrupted view of the ocean surface. This is a distinct advantage over infrared measurements of SST, which are obstructed by clouds. Comparisons with ocean buoys show a root mean square difference of...

A Study to determine the accuracy of satellite measurements for the salinity pattern and surface temperature of Persian Gulf using statistical method

The aim of this paper is to determine the sea surface salinity (SSS) and temperature (SST) of Persian Gulf by using the AMSU-B sensor data of NOAA-16 satellite. A multiple linear regression method was used by statistical computing software R on AMSU-B data and in-situ data. Based on the results, the correlation coefficient (R2) for salinity and temperature was 0.85 and 0.94, respectively. Also,...

THE DETERMINATION OF SEA-SURFACE TEMPERATURE ELLlTE HIGH RESOLUTION INFRARED WINDOW RADIATION ME

A statistical histogram method is developed to objectively determine sea-surface temperature from satellite high resolution window radiation measurements. The method involves inferring the distribution of surface radiances for the clear atmospheric casc from observed histograms of generally cloud-contaminated radiances. The brightness temperature associated with the clear atmosphere modal peak ...

Analysis of temporal and spatial correlation between precipitable water vapor retrievals from AIRS satellite sensor and 29 synoptic station measurements in Iran

Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) is one of the most important quantities in meteorology and climate studies. PWV in Earth's atmosphere can be measured by Sun-photometer, the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), and radiosonde from surface, atmosphere and space-based systems, respectively. In this paper, we use PWV measured by Sun-photometer located in Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Scien...

Sensitivity of satellite microwave and infrared observations to soil moisture at a global scale: Relationship of satellite observations to in situ soil moisture measurements

[1] This study presents a systematic and integrated analysis of the sensitivity of the available satellite observations to in situ soil moisture measurements. Although none of these satellites is optimized for land surface characterization, before the launches of the SMOSand HYDROS-dedicated missions they are the only potential sources of global soil moisture measurements. The satellite observa...
